A Brantford developer who is developing land along Grand River Avenue in Brantford has been ordered to stop all development by Six Nations natives or face occupation of his land.
The order from Six Nations came on Thursday, August 23, 2007. The developer, who is developing houses in a residential area was ordered by Six Nations to stop the construction of all housing units.
On Friday, August 24, 6 members of Six Nations came to the site and told the developer that if he did not stop all building they would send 20 to 30 natives to occupy his land stating he had no right to do any development as the land did not belong to him. Six Nations claims it is their land.
He contacted the police and the government, but was told to wait until after the Confederacy meeting on Saturday to see what the outcome of that would be.

Another Native Occupation in Brantford
By Christine McHale
August 28, 2007
Another one bites the dust!
Yes folks, it’s happened again. This time in Brantford, go figure!
A developer in Brantford was contacted by Six Nations last Thursday and told he had to stop all development of a housing sub-division because the land he bought wasn’t his. It belongs to Six Nations. Sound familiar?
The developer of Mayberry Homes, Mike Quattrociocchi, says he did everything right, everything he was supposed to do. He bought the land, got the land title, got the building permits, then made the fatal mistake of thinking all was good for go and he was in the clear. Never mind the fact that by that time, even before any ground was broken, before any basement was poured, before he did anything else, he would have spent millions already.
Now, after being told to stop all development, he is frustrated. Now that’s an understatement.
And, as if that weren’t enough, last Friday, six natives paid him a visit and told him that if he didn’t stop all development they would get twenty to thirty more natives to come and occupy land he had legally purchased, and legally had received all necessary land title, deed, and building permits for. Lock, stock and barrel!
So who runs this province anyways? Not the spineless McGuinty government, a government that would fail to recognize leadership if it bit them in the you-know-what!
The police perhaps? Nope!
So far, not one single developer, not one single police force, not one single McGuinty government MPP has stood up for justice.
To be sure, the developers, and they are a growing number, have made noise, but to no avail. Development has been stopped in Caledonia, Dunnville, Hagersville, to name a few, and now in Brantford, again.
Spineless, leadership clueless governments have enabled radical natives to thwart development and progress. Any why not? They’ve been given the green light by the government to go ahead, bring economic terrorism to town after town. They’ve been told to go ahead, claim land parcel after land parcel, rightly or wrongly so, and you just never know, you may walk away with oodles and oodles of land and cash to boot.
One glimmer of hope though. October 10 is coming up fast. Why not dump the clueless, leadership challenged McGuinty Liberals. After all, you can’t get any worse form of government that one which doesn’t govern.

Mohawk Nation News Reporter Admires Hitler
Native journalist Kahentinetha Horn, a reporter for Mohawk Nation News:
Last year, she publicly defended the pro-Holocaust remarks of David Ahenakew, the former Assembly of First Nations national chief. Ahenakew told a reporter that Jews were a “disease” and that Hitler was right to have “fried six million of those guys,” Horn wrote in the MNN that Ahenakew was referring only to Jewish “financial and media barons” and argued that Hitler deserved admiration because he “made sure the people had employment and good health.”
Because of the atrocities that happened during Worrld War II, people have forgotten that Hitler was a 20th Century pioneer of the social welfare state. He instituted decent living conditions for the common German people. They had been suffering terribly because of oppressive reparations they were required to pay following the defeat of their monarchs during World War I. Hitler reorganized the German state. He made sure the people had employment and good health. But his social engineering project went too far. He tried to get rid of not only the Jews, but also Gypsies and the mentally and physically handicapped.” Kahentinetha Horn, MNN Mohawk Nation News

Asians, Blacks, Europeans, Jews etc., Go Home!
Originally published August 16, 2006. Republished August 27th, 2007 as evidence of the Native Supremacy Movement in Ontario.
As a Canadian we don’t normally have to read such vulgar hate speech expressed against other Canadians. Certainly we support the rights of all Canadians and the whole reason this site was created was to ensure that all people are equal under the Law.
We do not agree that Natives have the right to discriminate against others nor do they have the right to spread hatred.
The fact remains however, that many Natives are against Asians, Blacks, Mexicans, Jews and Europeans and are demanding that they leave Canada - ‘Go Back to Where You Came From’ is their expression.
Our Governments have been wilfully lying to us over the years about the nature of many Native people. Even in Caledonia the Government is creating an Educational Program as part of the land claim - I don’t know what education has to do with a land claim that you already have decided is invalid. According to Hazel Hill this educational program is to address the racism of non-native people.
Once again the Ontario Government will go around telling everyone the Natives are right and we are racist.
Well, we say B.S. to that. We are not the ones calling for all Asians, all Blacks, all Jews etc. to get out of Canada. We are not the ones saying Canada isn’t a Country and that Canada has no authority to create a Constitution or Criminal Code.
How about an educational program teaching Natives that they are subject to our laws - something they don’t believe? How about educating Natives that other people have Rights, that other People are Human, that other People should not be assaulted and intimidated.
How dare Natives call upon Asians to get out of Canada. How dare Natives call Blacks white and tell them to get out of Canada.
We have seen the Natives in Caledonia fly Palestinian flags and march in Toronto in support of the terrorist group Hezbollah. [link][link]

Christian Extremists = Muslim Extremists = Native Extremists
Originally published January 1, 2007. Republished as further evidence of the Native Supremacy Movement in Ontario August 27, 2007
So far to date I have avoided talking about Religion and how it plays a role in Caledonia and in spreading of hate within the Native Community.
Allow me first to state my own personal beliefs, which I have avoided to do because many groups are quick to use the racist card to make themselves look like victims.
I am not spending any time on Muslim Extremists since the topic has been well covered since 911, other than to say that no group should be judged by the actions of the Extremists who have hijacked the religion to further their cause.
It is easy for people to identify Christian Extremists (KKK) and Muslim Extremists (Bin Laden) but for many there is no such thing as Native Extremists. Since no one group is perfect and human nature itself is such that there will be some in every group who hate, then logic forces us to accept that there would be Extremists within Native groups.
The fact that Native people cannot see that there are Native Extremists only points to how serious the issue is. Go back 100 years and ask the people of the deep south in the US whether the KKK was a Christian Extremist group or not. I am sure the vast majority would have said no. When Extremists control the culture then the situation is completely out of control.
This is the way it is within the Native community today. The few who have their own hatred, their own political agenda, their own power struggles have hijacked Native Spiritual beliefs to justify spreading violence and hatred.
I was raised a complete Atheist and became a Christian in my early twenties. I am not a Christian because my parents were but because I chose to be one. As such my beliefs are part of who Gary McHale is and in no way should be understood that somehow I am perfect (clearly I have character flaws) or better than anyone else.
I will admit that I have zero understanding of Native spiritual beliefs and next to zero about Muslim beliefs. However, I believe my own understanding of Christianity and human nature permits me to cover the topic at hand.
Every group has it’s own Extremists - whether these groups are based on Race, Religion, etc., human nature appears to be that there always will be some who see themselves as supreme which then is taken to the extreme.
What do I mean by Extremists
Being devoted to one’s beliefs is not being Extremist. Non-believers may see you as being extreme because your behavior doesn’t match the cultural norms. For example, there are groups that don’t drink tea or coffee which may appear to be foolish and extreme to some but devotion to one’s beliefs is in fact what all Religions in the world seek to produce.
By my view Extremism by definition hijacks their religious belief system to further their hatred and cause. When this occurs it is easy to paint all people who hold a particular religious view as being the same.
The whole idea of White Supremacy based on Christian teaching is itself an oxymoron. These people don’t start with a strong Christian belief and then turn to hate. At best they have a very weak Christian view but their hatred controls how they see the world and Christian teachings.
The very fact that right at the beginning of the Bible it states God created all men in His image shows just how quickly these people of hate refuse to accept what they claim to believe.
Since I got involved in the events in Caledonia I have heard repeatedly Native protesters talking about the Great Peacemaker and how their protest is peaceful (again devotion to one’s spiritual beliefs is great).
Jesus once said, “you will know them by their fruits” or in modern words, “Actions speak louder than words”. To claim to follow something called “Great Peacemaker” while your group attacks seniors, burns down a bridge, attempts to murder a cop is hypocracy at the highest level.
It is like the KKK hanging a black man just after the preacher quotes Jesus telling people to love their neighbor.
The problem is so pervasive at this moment of history that many Canadians and the Government are not seeing that Native Extremists as just as bad as Muslim Extremists. Everyone reading this would see that if a Muslim group dug up the highway, blocked railway lines, destroyed the power station, attacked residents and attempted to kill a cop the Government would immediately declare them a terrorist cell and arrest everyone one of them. And certainly if a group of peope claiming to be KKK did these actions they would be arrested before the end of the day.
But just like the deep south 100 years ago, our governments & police forces have been influenced by the Native Extremist propaganda of hate and threats of violence.

Red Power - Native Supremacy Movement in Ontario
Caledonia Wakeup Call has discovered that there is a Native Supremacy movement under way in Ontario. Some of the material has been proudly flaunted on Six Nations “reclamation” website, and at least one source of a new level of hate has been revealed. “Red Power Studios “has been manufacturing video’s encouraging the use of deadly force by Natives against Canadian citizens.
CSIS is investigating and we hope to have more information soon.
What we know to be true at this time is that these Native Supremacy videos have been circulating the internet for months now via multiple sources including the Six Nations “reclamation” site which is a chat board where people who support or take place in the Douglas Creek Estates occupation and other Native terrorist activities inflate one another’s ego.
The site was specifically set up to support the Douglas Creek Estates occupation in Caledonia and is a constant source of racist hatred toward non Natives or anyone who dares to speak against their terrorist, supremacist actions.
The message in the videos is neither subtle nor about “Aboriginal rights”. They boldly implore Natives to take up arms and attack the “evil” white man. They condemn negotiations as worthless and claim “the revolution is here”.
An excerpt from one of said videos. Burning bridges taking down, power lines 2007 it’s a sign of the times revolution’s real, feel my pain strap to a board and smash through your fucking brain. Ammonia Nitrate detonate a primer cord, hazard no more digging up the dawn, counter intelligence information aint gonna stop till I destroy your Nation, concerning non violence to hell with you all, fascist little bitches is the reason we fall.
Stare the enemy right in the eye, pull the pin prepare to die, residential schools attempted genocide, now it’s your turn to run and hide. Harper and McHale hope you burn in hell, you’ve done the right thing only time will tell. No one has ever called me a dirty Indian, down in Caledonia with the crosses burning, Canada sat down make a smart bomb, strapping myself up ready to get it on,
That is the cleanest portion of the language. One entitled “Killing for land “starts with the text “Igniting a revolution “another condones the terrorist attacks of 9/11 in the USA as justified.
The ideology of these people is clear. Hatred for everyone but Natives. The same ideology that fuels White Supremacist groups, Black Supremacist groups, a German Supremacist group that changed the world we live in, and now a Native Supremacy movement. To these people equality is a loathsome idea that can not be allowed to take place and we should all live in a world controlled by them or die.

How Canada’s natives became cigarette smugglers
In the history of cross-border smuggling, the Thousand Islands in general, and this one in particular, have a special place. Scattered through the upper St. Lawrence River, with the republic on the south shore and the dominion on the north, the islands were a smuggler’s dream — the American border is only about 10 kilometres from where I live.
But those days are in the past, no competition for a reality even better than any smuggler’s dream: Indian reserves.
The smuggling action is now to the east of us on the cross-border Akwesasne Mohawk reserve near Cornwall, Ont., where illegal cigarettes from New York state can be brought into Canada without leaving the reserve. And to the west is the Tyendinaga Mohawk reserve near Belleville, which is another sort of customs-free entity, in which tax-free cigarettes, legal for native Canadians, are smuggled out and sold on the black market. As was reported on the front page of yesterday’s Post, it is estimated that nearly one-third of all cigarettes sold in Ontario and Quebec were illicitly tax-free, smuggled off native reserves.
The lawlessness of the Caledonia, Ont., property dispute, now well over a year old, brought to public attention a phenomenon well-known in the illicit cigarette trade–namely, that many native reserves are no-go areas for police and treasury agents.
Perhaps attention is being paid now. At the end of June, when the Ontario Provincial Police obligingly closed the 401 highway in order to facilitate the native “day of action” protests, many residents in these parts were rather taken aback that the police appeared to be on the side of the illegal blockaders. Yet that has been true for a long time in regard to illegal tobacco and the rule of law — the peddlers of contraband have no better friend than police who deliberately look the other way.

2 Tiered Justice struggle: What has been accomplished
For many months now we - with the help of some extraordinary fellow Canadians in and outside of Caledonia - have worked full time to vigorously and legally oppose the Two Tier Justice policies of the McGuinty government and the Ontario Provincial Police, and give a voice to those who had none. During this protracted and tiring struggle it is hard for people, especially those closest to the continuing occupation of the Douglas Creek Estates in Caledonia to believe that anything at all has been accomplished, especially given that native intimidation of landowners is spreading.
In fact, a great deal has been accomplished to date:
Our accomplishments
Helped media realize that residents were innocent victims. Public opinion has turned against them so much that Natives involved in the most recent landclaim intimidation event resorted to carrying signs saying, “We are NOT terrorists!“
Provided reliable source of information for media stories.
Made ‘Two Tier Justice’ a household phrase.
Exposed terrorist threats to CSIS and the public.
Created ‘The Ipperwash Papers’ project to expose Ipperwash Inquiry for the shameful cover-up it was, thereby denying it as a tool for McGuinty’s re-election campaign. We were the first to tell the real story of what happened to the residents of Ipperwash. We were the first to get that story in the mainstream media, and we were the first to predict - 2 ½ months prior to release of its report, that the Inquiry would not be able to make any recommendations for preventing violence against innocent residents.
Silenced OPP propaganda machine with lawsuits and police complaints.
Exposed Liberal plan to sell out residents.

Bulletin: Mayor Trainer Needs Your Help NOW
Tomorrow morning, Haldimand Council will present a repugnant bit of skullduggery cooked up by behind the Mayor’s back with the help of some councillors and county staff. This treachery takes the form of a resolution that removes all privacy between you and your mayor. Here is an excerpt:
BE IT RESOLVED; THAT ALL correspondence sent and received through the Mayor’s office including all e-mail addressed to the Mayor by title or name, be copied to all councilors as well as the County Clerk;
AND THAT the Mayor’s assistant implement this direction for all hard copy correspondence;
You got it. Council wants copies of everything sent to and from the Mayor! Of course, they aren’t suggesting that copies of their messages be subject to this odious rule, only the Mayor’s.
In addition to violating the privacy between you and your Mayor, Council is seeking to dramatically undermine her role as the CEO of Haldimand, a post for which she was duly elected. It is un-democratic and it cannot be allowed to succeed.

McGuinty Attempts to Control Mayor Trainer
By Gary McHale - www.CaledoniaWakeupCall.com
A year ago we released the Liberal Plan for resolving Caledonia. It was clear that McGuinty was using the Alliance to influence the residents as McGuinty made secret deals with the Native Protesters during the low media period of August.
One of the problems McGuinty has had is the fact that Mayor Trainer speaks out – the only Haldimand Council member who does. McGuinty needed to have Mayor Trainer silenced and therefore the best way was to have her lose last Fall’s election.
The Alliance, being lead by Ken Hewitt, was to help ensure Mayor Trainer didn’t win the election. The Alliance backed Lorraine Bergstrand to be the Mayor in the election. [Link to Leaked Liberal Plan]
Lorraine Bergstrand phoned me and told me she had no connections with the Ontario Liberal Party and she was not working with the Alliance to remove the Mayor. Here are some points to remember:
1) Prior to my posting of the Liberal Plan, McGuinty was proud that he, unlike Harris or the Federal Government, was handling Caledonia quite well and would have a quick resolution.
2) After posting the Liberal Plan, McGuinty suddenly started saying that Caledonia was a Federal problem.
3) Ken Hewitt who claimed to have no connections with the Liberals ran for nomination for the Federal Liberals.
4) Lorraine Bergstrand, who claimed to have no connections with the Liberals, will be running against Toby Barrett in this Fall’s election. Which party is she running for… the McGuinty Liberals.
The Alliance Failed to fulfill McGuinty’s desire to replace Mayor Trainer.

McGuinty Damage Control Machine Kicks In
By Christine McHale
August 2, 2007
Since the story broke last week of how Mike Colle, FORMER Minister of Citizenship and Immigration went on a wild spending spree with Ontario taxpayers’ money, the McGuinty Damage Control Machine has kicked into high gear.
His statements such as, “I have had the opportunity to put thought into action for the betterment of Ontario,” are laughable in light of what has been exposed as scandalous spending of taxpayers’ money. Too bad Mike Colle didn’t put thought BEFORE action when he went on a wild spending spree.
The web page that so proudly proclaimed how Mike Colle delivered results, has suddenly been changed to list out reasons as to why he is running as a candidate in the riding of Eglinton-Lawrence. Here’s what was on Mike Colle’s web page before the Auditor General exposed the spending fiasco by Mike Colle’s ministry:

Haldimand OPP - “We can write traffic tickets”
It seems that last weeks attempt to play “cops” by enforcing a curfew against teenagers in Caledonia was not good enough for the Haldimand OPP. In a further effort to convince the public that they in fact still have control in Caledonia, they sent out the following press release today.
August 02, 2007
(Haldimand County, ON) Haldimand County OPP is anticipating considerable traffic on the roadways and waterways this long weekend due to many motor sport events, boating and tourism plus its close proximity to larger municipalities within the Golden Horseshoe.
Haldimand County has experienced 4 fatal and 106 personal injury motor vehicle collisions so far this year. A traffic initiative is being implemented for this long weekend, which is intended to prevent further fatalities and enforce a zero tolerance policy for driving/boating infractions within the county.
Through this initiative, Haldimand County OPP has identified Highway 6 a hotspot between Haldibrook Road and Haldimand Road 66. For this year so far, the numbers show 12 motor vehicle collisions at the intersection of Green’s Road and Highway 6.
Cst Wright states the three major factors in collisions along this stretch of Highway and at this intersection are driving too fast for conditions, following to close and failing to stop/yield.
Haldimand County OPP will be increasing traffic enforcement at this intersection as well as along Highway 6. More R.I.D.E. Programs will be conducted at the intersection and on Highway 6, which will also help slow traffic down. The Haldimand County OPP Marine Unit will be increasing their enforcement as well while patrolling the Grand River and Lake Erie. Traffic on Highway 56 will be closely monitored as well as other major roadways to prevent people intending to race their vehicles or drive aggressively. Drinking and driving offences and non-compliance of seatbelt laws are a part of the zero tolerance policy, which officers will be strictly enforcing.
However, the best prevention comes from the motoring public. All motorists are encouraged to call OPP on their cell phone to report bad driving and impaired driving. In doing so, the hotspots will go away.
To report unsafe drivers call *OPP on your cell phone or 1-888-310-1122. If you see an impaired driver call 911. Your call makes a difference.
Here are a few questions I’m sure they won’t care to answer. How quickly will that “zero tolerance” policy change if they observe a driver who is Native that happens to be impaired, or not wearing his seat belt? How often do they check the many cars that come and go from DCE to see if the driver is wearing a seatbelt or impaired? How many cars have sped away from DCE and been pulled over so the driver could be ticketed?
When are they going to learn that enforcing boating safety regulations can’t undo their refusal to enforce a court order to remove violent criminals from a subdivision in 2006?
When they say “your call makes a difference” why don’t they mention that if your call comes from the Sixth Line Rd. or a house bordering DCE, your call will be ignored?
I’m sure Paula Wright who issues these statements is reading this, so feel free to answer my questions anytime Paula. I’m sure my readers would be fascinated by your answers.

OPP use curfew to tackle mischief in Haldimand
Haldimand OPP have taken the unusual step of issuing a curfew for young people to combat mischief. On the weekend, Haldimand police plucked three young people off the streets and took them home. In each case, the parents weren’t aware their children were out, police said in a news release.
In one incident, some young people were found under the Caledonia bridge breaking bottles. One youth was charged, while others fled the scene, sending text messages to their friends warning them not to come, say police.
Police believe word of their crackdown on mischief must have spread because their were only six mischief incidents reported over the weekend and most of them were minor. The exception was some graffiti spray painted on buildings in Dunnville. Most of the words and images were directed at police.
Under the Child and Family Services Act, police are able to take any child under 16 off the street if they are in a public place between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m. and not accompanied by an adult. Police may take a child home or to a place of safety.

Don’t inflame moraine debate - Waterloo is not Caledonia
Waterloo is not Caledonia. It is a different place with a different history and, most significantly for this discussion, no ongoing dispute with any Canadian First Nations community.
So why is David Wellhauser suddenly suggesting that the aboriginal protests that have rocked the town of Caledonia could erupt in the city of Waterloo? Why is Wellhauser, who has until now made reasoned arguments against three Waterloo subdivisions, grasping at a ridiculous, possibly dangerous straw in the campaign to stop the developments from being built? Why, indeed?
This week Wellhauser warned that if the region ignores aboriginal interests in Waterloo’s west side developments, it risks seeing a replay of the tensions that have gripped Caledonia for more than a year. Though Wellhauser didn’t specify what people in this community might have to look forward to, anyone familiar with the Six Nations occupation of a Caledonia subdivision knows it was marred last year by vandalism, violence, assaults, arrests as well as criminal charges, and that the occupation continues to this day. (Edit: Let’s call it like it is here. It’s a threat of a Terrorist attack)
Let’s be perfectly blunt here. The suggestion that these developments are on land claimed by an aboriginal community is without foundation. There is no outstanding aboriginal claim to any land in Waterloo Region, except to the bed and banks of the Grand River itself. And the west-side Waterloo lands are far from the river.

Critics say Kashechewan aid plan ignores flood reality
OTTAWA - An agreement to rebuild a flood-ravaged native reserve at its existing location has forced officials from the community and the Harper government on the defensive over accusations they were ignoring advice from a federal report and the will of the local population.
Indian Affairs Minister Jim Prentice signed the new deal Monday with Kashechewan chief Jonathon Solomon. It closed the door to two other options - to relocate the low-lying James Bay community to higher ground within its traditional territory, or to shift the reserve about 450 kilometres south to Timmins, Ont, as proposed by federal adviser Alan Pope.
Solomon, who insisted earlier this spring that his Cree community wanted to relocate, said a majority of residents changed their mind in recent weeks after a lengthy consultation process.
A survey of residents from March found that a majority wanted to move to higher ground but stay within the boundaries of their traditional territory. Prentice said the $500-million price tag was too high.
But opposition Liberals and New Democrats suggested the government was letting down the Cree community that has been evacuated three times since 2004 because of spring flooding and a tainted water crisis. (Edit: and we all know what a great track record the Liberals have in dealing with Native issues)

Sides in uranium dispute seek truce; Judge asks for compromise to be found until trial starts in September
Kingston Whig-Standard
Both sides of a dispute over a potential uranium mine north of Kingston hope to reach a temporary truce as early as Thursday.Frontenac Ventures Corp. has asked the Ontario Superior Court of Justice to grant a permanent injunction against protesters who are blocking the entrance to a uranium prospecting area north of Sharbot Lake.
If granted, the court could potentially force the protesters to leave, among other options. (Edit: Not with a police force who refuse to enforce court orders against Natives)
Frontenac Ventures is also suing the protesters for $77 million.
The protesters, members of the Ardoch and Shabot Obaadjiwan Algonquin Nations, are counter-suing Frontenac Ventures and plan to ask the court to kick the prospecting firm off the land.
The judge asked Reid, Smitheman and Stephen Reynolds, who represents the Shabot Obaadjiwan Algonquin, to return Thursday with a point-form, one-page list of concessions that they hope the other side will make for them.

Native leaders’ help needed to solve crime problem: councillor
A Winnipeg city councillor says it’s “high time” for aboriginal leaders in the city to work with governments to help put an end to a crime wave that has kept city police hopping.
Winnipeg police say they have never seen call volumes as high as this summer.
After another violent weekend in the city — with at least three stabbings, one fatal — police spokesman Sgt. Kelly Dennison said Monday that police officers are literally running from call to call.
Harry Lazarenko, city councillor for the Mynarski ward, said his area sees violent crime every night, and he’s received calls from constituents who are afraid to leave their homes.
The longtime city councillor called on aboriginal leaders in the city to get involved in solving problem.
“My concern is, where are the native leaders? They are heard any other time,” said Lazarenko, who lives on Magnus Avenue, which has been the scene of several shootings this year.
“I’m asking these aboriginal leaders to get involved because this is the biggest — you know, people that are having problems is with them — they’ve got young kids, they’re leading a life of crime. They’re dying.”

Island band passes treaty with 90% vote
The Huu-ay-aht First Nation of the west coast of Vancouver Island has become the second band in the province to ratify a treaty under the B.C. Treaty Commission.
The 615-member band, which has its home village at Pachena Bay near Bamfield, voted 90 per cent in favour of adopting the Maa-Nulth Treaty on Saturday. The results were announced Sunday. Of the 303 eligible Huu-ay-aht voters who took part, 272 approved the document that will grant the band self-government and 8,258 hectares of land, as well as cash, access to fisheries, forestry and other economic opportunities the band values at $145 million. (Edit: That’s $345 Million so far this week being given to Natives for those keeping score of their tax dollars)
Reaction to the vote was overwhelmingly positive.

Aid for native children coming?; County vying for money to get child-care spaces
Simcoe County’s aboriginal children might be getting some much-needed day-care space later this year. The county is among 14 others in the running for funding from the Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth Services to provide specified aboriginal child-care spaces for off-reserve children.
“We’ve consulted with aboriginal families and identified clearly the need for specific, aboriginally-run child care services off the reserve in the county,” said Greg Bishop, the county’s manager of children and community services. “We’re excited about this and it’s good news for the county. It’s a first step to addressing all gaps in availability of aboriginal child services.”
The development of these child care spaces is an expansion project funded by the Ministry’s Best Start program, introduced in November 2004.

Land claims take back seat: Activist
It doesn’t involve gun crime in downtown Toronto, so native land claim issues get pushed aside, one native activist says.
Although a recent survey by Angus Reid shows 71% of Canadians want the government to speed up the native land claims process, Brian Wright-McLeod, cultural liaison officer for the Native Canadian Centre of Toronto, said there doesn’t seem to be any political will to get it done.
“It’s all through legislation. Rather than the gun, it’s a quiet issue and people don’t recognize it,” Wright-McLeod said.
(Edit: I’m inclined to agree here. The Government should be focusing on a Native related problem such as the fact that they have AK-47’s on DCE which are far more dangerous than any hand gun, and one of them has already demonstrated their willingness to use them by blowing a hole through someones arm in the spring.)
