DCE Occupation was motivated by Racism

By Gary McHale - www.CaledoniaWakeupCall.com

August 26 2007

In 1981 we moved to Toronto – Steels and Warden Ave. to be more exact. We moved into an apartment and lived on the 20th floor. Although it was part of Scarborough, it looked like we were in the country since you had to drive on dirt roads to get to our building.

We lived there for 14 years and 200,000 people moved into the area.During the 1980s was the time when Canada opened the doors to people from Hong Kong with over 500,000 moving to Canada in a few short years.

We witnessed the malls change from English to Asian and one by one businesses started to have Asian only signs. Home after home was built and purchased by Asian people and slowly even the churches started to have Asian only services. To us this wasn’t a problem.

My wife donated time teaching English as a Second Language to Asian people but many whites and blacks had a hard time. Suddenly their neighborhood had a new culture, customs and language.

Throughout history racism starts when such changes occur in communities when those who hold to their culture and customs are forced to allow others to live side by side with them.

Just how many white communities over the years hated it when the first black family moved in. To them their white culture, traditions and customs were suddenly under attack. For these whites their whole way of life had to be defended.

Janie Jamieson’s statements in Toronto Life demonstrates Racism

Imagine my surprise to read that Janie Jamieson, Native Spokesperson for DCE occupation, used the very words that whites used when Blacks move in to their neighborhoods. When the Asians first moved into Scarborough they were met with the same racist statements and attitude that Jamieson admits to in the Toronto Life story. The following is the quote from Toronto Life Aug 2007:

For Jamieson, the story raised a red flag. The plan projected 7,000 new residents in Haldimand County alone over the next 20 years. “That really frightened me,” she recalls. “All these strangers moving right onto our doorstep, and we had no say in it.”

This is like reading white supremacy material that shows a fear that Blacks are moving in and the whites have no say. Whites fear their culture and traditions would start to change. Their children would slowly mix and white culture would be lost.

Jamieson states in the Toronto Life story that “We have such a strong, rich history…” This is true but so does every group. What Jamieson is presenting is that by allowing Italians, Germans, Asians, Africans etc. to move right onto their ‘doorstep’ that she was ‘frightened’.

This truly is the heart of racism.

Martin Luther King Jr. vs. Malcolm X

By Gary McHale - www.CaledoniaWakeupCall.com

August 26, 2007

No one could deny the historical abuses that Blacks faced in the USA and especially in the Southern States. No one could deny that the rise of the KKK added greatly to the hardships faced by Blacks. Clearly the USA was guilty of violating the basic Human Rights of Blacks for several generations.

Both Dr. King Jr. and Malcolm Little (called Malcolm X) lived in the same time frame and each saw it their duty to fight for the Rights of the Black people. Each saw the historical abuses and the hatred that many Americans had towards the Black people. Each had stories where they witnesses racism and violence against Blacks first hand.

But each of these men chose a pattern to fight for the Rights and Freedoms that Blacks deserved to have. Freedom from racism and freedom from the violence that came with such racism was a noble cause to fight for. The Right to Equality under the Law and Equality throughout American Society was something that was deserved.

One chose to be consumed by Hate and would lead Black Rights Groups that would see Hate and Violence as the means against the white man. One chose to be governed by patience, tolerance and he fought for peace, not using violence.

Who is your Hero?

We chose Dr. King Jr. Unfortunately, the media printed that because we quoted from Dr. King Jr. and believed it was great to follow his example of non-violent protest, that this was something they could use in order to insult me, saying that I thought I was Martin Luther King Jr.

Meanwhile, Red Power Studios and a Delegation of Six Nations Youth saw their hero in the form of Malcolm X. They created a video with images of Malcolm X along with one of his speeches that justified killing people for land.

To date the media has not bothered to point out that Native Extremists are idiolizing Malcolm X – maybe they’re too busy thinking it is funny that we quote from such a peace loving person like Dr. King Jr.

Teams watching police; Complaints will be filed

Every time an Ontario Provincial Police officer does not uphold the laws of Canada, police watch teams will record the incident and lay complaints.

Gary McHale told a crowd at a Caledonia community meeting that over 50 complaints will be filed by teams by the end of the summer. (EDIT: He said 50 complaints against Fantino alone. That’s in addition to any other officers we find failing to do their jobs)

The government has been told they will be inundated with videos and complaints, he said. Each police watch team will include a videographer, investigator and computer person. Together they will create a record, collect officer badge numbers and prepare two complaints, he said.

McHale gave his first presentation on police watch teams the day before some Six Nations community members moved into a Hagersville construction site. A team attended and recorded breaches of enforcement.

Both OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino and the officer at the scene were named. By so doing, the complainant must receive some kind of response within 30 days. The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services has no deadline to investigate allegations about Fantino, said McHale. (EDIT: I was part of that team and complaints have been filed against 3 officers who were at the scene not 1)

At the meeting, he played YouTube video footage of Shawn Brant speaking of First Nations interfering with rail lines, highways, and gas and hydro lines on June 29. In his speech at a Toronto Ontario Coalition Against Poverty meeting, he said he didn’t care if First Nations created non-native victims. When Caledonia happened, First Nations communities knew it was time, Brant said on the video. McHale pointed out that if a Muslim made such a speech, he would be arrested before he finished talking. Brant made a direct terrorist threat.

McHale has his own plans to put pressure on the government and to get out the true picture of Caledonia’s experience. This year he will publish a National Geographic calibre magazine, Canada at the Crossroads, to get the stories out that mainstream media will not write. People across Canada will have the opportunity to read this professionally bound 100 page magazine which will include exclusive material, he said.

Thank you Mr. Fantino: My countersuit regarding conspiracy

By Gary McHale: Editor- www.caledoniawakeupcall.com

In my mind it had been clear that the Ontario Government, along with the OPP and Haldimand County, were working together to end my Right to Freedom of Expression as guaranteed by our Charter of Rights. Direct proof of this conspiracy was hard to come by until Fantino did what people in positions of power don’t do, and that was provide written evidence to support my belief.

What Fantino also did was to admit that he had a “mutual understanding” as to how to handle me. What exactly is this backroom ‘understanding’ that Fantino admits to? If he feels it is okay to threaten Haldimand Council in an email then what exactly has he said behind closed doors?
What makes Fantino’s email the ’smoking gun’ in my view is that he sent his email directly to senior members of McGuinty’s Government.

The Government who repeatedly stated that they have no direct involvement in the OPP operations in Caledonia. But why then does McGuinty’s Chief of Staff and McGuinty’s Press Secretary need to know that Fantino is directly trying to intimidate Haldimand County? What was the response by McGuinty’s staff to the fact that Fantino was threatening elected officials?
Back in July of 2006, Chris Morley, named in the countersuit, threatened CHTV for having me on TV. Long before Fantino started his 3 month campaign of defamation against me we had McGuinty’s office trying to punish a media outlet for reporting the news.

We need to remember that Fantino stated in his email that he would encourage individual officers to sue me or council members. Is anyone surprised to see that 22 officers have filed a lawsuit against me? Guess who is paying for the legal fees for these officers? The OPPA lawyer is the lawyer for these 22 officers.

What is so great about this countersuit, in my view, is that we now have the legal right to all email & correspondence between all these people. All in-camera meetings at Haldimand County with Fantino are now subject to this lawsuit. I now have the Right to know what ‘mutual understanding’ means between Fantino and Haldimand County.

I will remind people that on Dec. 15, 2006, Mayor Trainer stated on radio that the OPP should arrest me and the very next day I was arrested by the OPP and spent the night in jail even though they knew they had no charges against me.

Where is Free Speech in this Province? What is McGuinty’s involvement in directing the OPP and taking part in the defamation?

We will find the answers in court.

McHale sues Haldimand County, Fantino, OPP association

The Hamilton Spectator(Jun 11, 2007)

A Richmond Hill man who runs a website critical of the provincial police’s conduct in Caledonia has responded to a $7.2-million lawsuit filed against him by 22 OPP officers who say they were defamed on his site with his own counter claim.

Gary McHale announced the launch of his own suit yesterday afternoon at a town hall meeting in Caledonia.

“It is clear they are trying to silence our free speech and it’s not going to work,” said McHale yesterday.

CBC: Critics of aboriginal protests denied space in Deseronto

A group that accuses police of being too easy on aboriginal protesters claims it is being muzzled after it was refused meeting space in an eastern Ontario town facing a land dispute with local Mohawks.

“It’s typical suppression of free speech,” said Gary McHale, after trying unsuccessfully to book the Lion’s Club hall in Deseronto, Ont., on behalf of a group that’s been critical of the way police have handled an ongoing Six Nations occupation in Caledonia, Ont., and runs the website Caledonia Wake Up Call.

A group of protesters from the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory near Deseronto, Ont., has occupied a quarry close to the town for more than two months, and McHale said he wants to help town residents.

“The purpose of our meeting was to teach people how to gather evidence and how to file police service complaints,” said McHale, who is from Richmond Hill, Ont.
McHale was told he could not book the hall in Deseronto because local functions take precedence over events from out of town.

He said he doesn’t believe that’s the real reason his group was turned away, and that his group will try other means to meet with Deseronto residents.

Caledonia Wake Up Call accuses Ontario Provincial Police of allowing aboriginal protesters to break the law and of not protecting non-aboriginals during an occupation such as the one in Caledonia.

Why Fantino failed - Racism charge comes to MSM

By Gary McHale

This week marks the death of Two Tier Justice in Ontario, but Fantino, McGuinty and Native Protesters are too blind to read the death certificate.

We have seen for the past year how a small group of Native people took it upon themselves to attack the very foundation of any democratic society and that is the “Rule of Law”. They were emboldened by the complete failure of the OPP in Ipperwash to enforce any Law & Order and the 15+ years of appeasement only lead to Caledonia, Grassy Narrows, Deseronto and Hagersville.

The untold thousands of victims created by this small band of Native Protesters would have gone unnoticed by the people of Ontario because Main Stream Media would have avoided covering the stories. This is why CaledoniaWakeUpCall was created.

For the Media, it didn’t want to be labeled as racist. We see this week how Mark on CHTV Live was called a racist because he believes that when crimes are committed people (any people) should go to jail.

Why did Fantino fail in his attempt to slander me? Why did Fantino fail to control the media and create endless B.S. propaganda about what was happening? The reasons are quite simple.

First, I present the Truth and therefore Fantino, McGuinty, Tory, etc., etc. were fighting to present lies to the public.

Second, I relied on human nature to take its course.

Fantino and the Politicians were putting their trust in the very people who were committing the crimes. They were hoping and maybe even praying that these people would show some degree of self-control, some degree of understanding that they cannot awaken the Canadian Public to the truth which is that they are out of control.

All we had to do was to wait until these occupations self-exploded into what we now see. The Native Occupiers were creating a movement across Canada that was based on criminal behaviour, violence and on the victimization of innocent residents. Such a movement could only end one way and that is in the complete lawlessness we now see.

In Turtle Island News last week we read that the Clan Mothers and Chiefs do not go onto DCE in Caledonia because they are afraid - welcome to the world of the residents.

It appeared okay by many Native leaders that the victims of these violent Land Claims were non-Native, but now that they are also afraid of them it appears to be a different story.

I personally cannot understand why Fantino would believe that any politician would be steadfast on anything. But it appears that he has hooked his future to McGuinty’s propaganda machine in an attempt to get McGuinty re-elected.

Does he really think with an election coming that McGuinty will fall on his own sword to save him? The writing is on the wall and Fantino has failed to enforce the law, failed to end Two Tier Justice and failed to close down CaledoniaWakeUpCall.

It wasn’t for the lack of trying - numerous press releases and statements in the media by Fantino to slander me, secret understandings with Haldimand County to get people not to listen to us, and even a lawsuit…

Sorry Fantino, you failed. You backed the criminals instead of the law abiding citizens of this province. You used slander and intimidation instead of Truth and Justice.

Fantino somehow believed that his rants, his character assassinations, his slander, his bullying, his strong arm tactics would have an affect on me. It was down right funny to watch him call in the London Riot Team on Jan. 20th to stop peaceful people from keeping themselves warm by a fire on Chris’ property. It was quite amazing to witness him hide out at Unity Road and peek around the corner of the window to see us outside confronting the Ontario Chief Bully.
Fantino was reduced to a joke which only caused him to self-explode when he sent out his email rant. Since then he is no where to be found.

Who are we gonna blame?… Can’t find that McHale guy

By a resident of Caledonia - May 24, 2007

For the past six-eight months or so, the Ontario Provincial Police have basically blamed Gary McHale for inciting emotions in this Community, for subjecting all of us to “dangerous” situations, and they’ve used Gary as a scapegoat to lay blame. In reality, blame really belongs squarely at the feet of the Ontario Provincial Police in conjunction with the Emergency Response Team (E.R.T.), the Major Events Liaison Team (M.E.L.T.) and the Aboriginal Relations Team (A.R.T.)

Some people are demonstrating that they can be very selective with their memory process.
Just as an example, on January 16th, 2007, the O.P.P. put out a warrant for the arrest of an individual that was “observed” operating a front-end loader damaging Argyle Street and causing a specified amount of public damage. According to the O.P.P. this event occurred on May 22nd 2006.

In the scheme of things, it took the O.P.P. all of 239 days to figure out that the loud engine noise (100 feet away from where they stood) was the sound of the street being ripped apart in an act of destructive “mischief”. Again, the press release makes it sound like a frivolous event, nothing too serious, if you know where this guy is, call this number, nothing to get excited about…

Recent events:

Notre Dame Elementary School had to go into “lock down” mode, not once but twice

The natives picked a fight on DCE resulting with a firearm being discharged and one person hospitalized. The O.P.P. say it had nothing to do with DCE, but in reality, that’s where the argument began! Who incited emotions this time around?

Contractors hired to do maintenance work on The Baptist Church property came under attack one morning when the natives decided they wanted to be consulted first…

A threat was uttered to burn this same Baptist Church to the ground if the native demands were not satisfied

Where was Gary all this time? Well it seems he was safely tucked in his bed at his home. Gary was nowhere near Caledonia , we were not even in his dreams! So who’s to blame here? Perhaps certain individuals should step up to the plate and point the “finger of blame” exactly where it belongs – at the hooded and masked natives!

Why do councillors not support Gary McHale?

Originally posted February 14th/07 - Still a very interesting read!

Many think that Gary McHale is old news by now, but his name came up frequently last week at a public meeting in Caledonia.

People don’t have a problem with county councillors not supporting Gary McHale. They have a problem with councillors who are against him and make him a target for public backlash. And it isn’t necessarily just about Gary McHale, personally. It’s about what he represents in the grand scheme of things. McHale has become a symbol of what’s wrong in Caledonia, and perhaps more importantly, Haldimand.

It seems as if the majority of government and police spokespersons as well as county councillors condemn Gary McHale as they speak of this “assistance”. It’s as if McHale is at the root of Caledonia’s problems and the natives are virtually non-existent now, just because they’ve been quiet lately in below freezing weather.

The question still remains - and no one has answered it yet to our satisfaction - how has McHale disrupted the peace? Simply, how? We can think of many instances that would show natives causing disruptions over the past year, but how exactly has Gary McHale disturbed the peace?

In our opinion, when we start attacking McHale, we start attacking the wrong side of this dispute. Do we all-of-a-sudden forget the months prior to his arrival?

Arbitrarily deciding not to support a simple Canadian flag-raising incident pales in comparison to arbitrarily attacking the credibility of one without cause, before it even happens. No one asked county councillors to do that. So why did they?

1960 - McHale’s of Caledonia

It doesn’t matter to me which town had been victimized by crimes committed by DCE occupiers, I would still have been involved. The fact that it is Caledonia and that my family has it roots in Caledonia isn’t the reason why I got involved.

This past weekend I went to Kingston for my father’s 80th birthday party and I was given some old photos and other things from my aunt. Included was an old newspaper story from 1960 regarding McHales in Caledonia. Yes, you heard me right, McHales lived in Caledonia since the mid 1950s….

I grew up near Deseronto and went to school not that far from Deseronto. My mother is buried in a very small village near Deseronto. The sign for Greater Napanee is 100 ft away from the road that goes to Deseronto.

Help Wanted: Person to change history, spelling skills not necessary

Anyone who knows me or has read VoiceofCanada for longer than five minutes knows that I hate typographical errors and bad grammar. I’m no English teacher, but I do agonize over every word, period and comma, trying to get it right. Apparently, I’m not the only one. The editor of the Square Pegs blog just put up a post commenting on the ‘FANTINO YOUR FIRED’ sign that was on display at Queen’s Park in connection with yesterday’s Caledonia Convoy.

Gary McHale sent me a link to the post and, after filling Square Pegs in on the background of the badly mis-spelt sign, I realized that I just had to post it…

The sign was originally used at a March for Freedom event back in March to protest Fantino’s bogus complaint against a Hamilton Police officer who was himself a victim of native violence in Caledonia and …..

It’s about accountability: McHale

” My Goal is to expose that the government doesn’t listen to the will of the people “

With that statement begins a very interesting look at who Gary McHale is, and why he has brought this group of people together. This story was published by the Hamilton Spectator on January 20th, 2007, and although it’s a bit outdated, I think it’s an excellent read for anyone who wants to know more about Gary McHale and the goal he leads people like myself toward accomplishing. A sample of the article:

Q: You’ve had some interest in other issues before Caledonia, including former Liberal David Emerson crossing the floor. You’ve written letters to the editor about federal politics and the same-sex marriage bill. What’s the connection between Caledonia and those other political issues?

A: The absolute failure of leadership. We’re all leaders at some point. You’re a leader in your home, you’re a leader of kids, women are leaders at times … Our concept of (leadership) now is totally wussy. No one will take a stand on anything anymore. Nothing is based on principles, it’s about how do I skirt this, how do I pass the buck … In Caledonia, there’s an absolute failure of leadership. If there was proper leadership, I wouldn’t be involved …

Jamie West: Racist Moron Comment

The advantage of always capturing what is said on blogs, and websites is that you have proof that people like Jamie West, from AM900 CHML, are clueless about non-biased reporting in today’s world.

Not only is CHML out of date regarding what is happening in Caledonia, they are also quite clueless about people’s views in town. Mr. West thought it was quite okay for him to call me a “Racist Moron”, but of course that means anyone who supports what I am saying is also a “Racist Moron”.

Below is Mr. West’s post and the responses to his post on the CHML site. Of course CHML has completely removed his whole post.

OPP & OPPA vs Supreme Court of Canada & the Charter of Rights and Freedoms

In this unbelievable audio recording Gary McHale and Bo Chausse (the first person to be arrested for trying to erect a Canadian flag on Dec 02/06) try to get the officer to explain what the determining factor is in deciding who can put up a Canadian flag. Listen as the officer does everything possible to evade the question as he takes the heat for the cowardly leaders hiding inside. It exposes clearly the double-talk and the double-standard that law abiding residents of Caledonia have been subjected to for almost a year at the hands of this so-called ‘police force.’

This sergeant wasn’t interested in even trying to help us. Shortly after the conversation shown on the video ended, he told us there were no senior officers present, but several people then exclaimed that they had just seen Commissioner Fantino in a window. I asked if he would check with the Commissioner to see if he would be willing to meet with us, but he refused to even ask. The fact that he’d just been caught with his pants down in a bald-faced lie didn’t seem to bother him in the least.

This is a must read story packed full of video and audio evidence of 2 tiered justice. It’s also an in depth account of what happened on January 20th 2007, when Gary McHale, Mark Vandermass, and supporters including myself came face to face with the Natives occupying DCE, confronted Julian Fantino at the Unity Rd station in Caledonia where he hid and peeked out a window while his flunkies told us there were “no senior officers” at the station, tried to get OPP officers to answer the question of why white people are not allowed to hang Canadian flags (which they could NOT do), Gary briefly achieved his goal of hanging a Canadian flag only to have it unlawfully removed by an OPP officer who admits to it on tape which is posted online.. It was a very bad day for the OPP and Fantino, and is one of the most important posts in Voice of Canada history.

McHale keeps spotlight on Caledonia

Who knew OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino was such a prima donna? I can’t decide whether to laugh or cry at his latest hissy fit in the form of an e-mail to Haldimand Mayor Marie Trainer. Couching the OPP’s failure to live up to its obligations in a tirade against Gary McHale and a threat to the Haldimand council is both immature and reckless.

The injustices in Caledonia need to be kept in the public eye and pressure needs to be continually placed on elected officials. If it takes a Gary McHale to maintain the attention of governments, the media and now the OPP, then so be it.
