It seems that last weeks attempt to play “cops” by enforcing a curfew against teenagers in Caledonia was not good enough for the Haldimand OPP. In a further effort to convince the public that they in fact still have control in Caledonia, they sent out the following press release today.

(Haldimand County, ON) Haldimand County OPP is anticipating considerable traffic on the roadways and waterways this long weekend due to many motor sport events, boating and tourism plus its close proximity to larger municipalities within the Golden Horseshoe.
Haldimand County has experienced 4 fatal and 106 personal injury motor vehicle collisions so far this year. A traffic initiative is being implemented for this long weekend, which is intended to prevent further fatalities and enforce a zero tolerance policy for driving/boating infractions within the county.
Through this initiative, Haldimand County OPP has identified Highway 6 a hotspot between Haldibrook Road and Haldimand Road 66. For this year so far, the numbers show 12 motor vehicle collisions at the intersection of Green’s Road and Highway 6.
Cst Wright states the three major factors in collisions along this stretch of Highway and at this intersection are driving too fast for conditions, following to close and failing to stop/yield.
Haldimand County OPP will be increasing traffic enforcement at this intersection as well as along Highway 6. More R.I.D.E. Programs will be conducted at the intersection and on Highway 6, which will also help slow traffic down. The Haldimand County OPP Marine Unit will be increasing their enforcement as well while patrolling the Grand River and Lake Erie. Traffic on Highway 56 will be closely monitored as well as other major roadways to prevent people intending to race their vehicles or drive aggressively. Drinking and driving offences and non-compliance of seatbelt laws are a part of the zero tolerance policy, which officers will be strictly enforcing.
However, the best prevention comes from the motoring public. All motorists are encouraged to call OPP on their cell phone to report bad driving and impaired driving. In doing so, the hotspots will go away.
To report unsafe drivers call *OPP on your cell phone or 1-888-310-1122. If you see an impaired driver call 911. Your call makes a difference.
Here are a few questions I’m sure they won’t care to answer. How quickly will that “zero tolerance” policy change if they observe a driver who is Native that happens to be impaired, or not wearing his seat belt? How often do they check the many cars that come and go from DCE to see if the driver is wearing a seatbelt or impaired? How many cars have sped away from DCE and been pulled over so the driver could be ticketed?
When are they going to learn that enforcing boating safety regulations can’t undo their refusal to enforce a court order to remove violent criminals from a subdivision in 2006?
When they say “your call makes a difference” why don’t they mention that if your call comes from the Sixth Line Rd. or a house bordering DCE, your call will be ignored?
I’m sure Paula Wright who issues these statements is reading this, so feel free to answer my questions anytime Paula. I’m sure my readers would be fascinated by your answers.

County demands action from Ottawa
Haldimand County council has demanded that Prime Minister Stephen Harper assign Haldimand Norfolk MP Diane Finley to represent the municipality in land claims negotiations in order to prevent economic disaster.“She needs to be at every (Haldimand) planning meeting, every community meeting and first-hand at the negotiating table,” said Coun. Don Ricker, who represents Moulton, Sherbrooke and Dunn. “Haldimand County should not be kept from any (negotiating) table. This is our issue … If this moves forward, this is going to help Haldimand County and Canada.”This week Trainer said Haldimand County was “a pilot project for the natives to see what can happen” with occupations. Caledonia, Dunnville, Hagersville and other parts of the county have “become lightning rods for First Nations frustrations over land claim inaction by the federal government” , she read.

Cop cleared in war of words

A Hamilton police officer has been cleared of accusations of discreditable conduct for criticizing Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty and OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino for their handling of the Caledonia native land claim dispute.
Fantino filed a formal complaint in February against David Hartless, a Hamilton constable whose Caledonia home backs onto the native-occupied, former Douglas Creek Estates, alleging a widespread e-mail Hartless sent was “venomous” and represented “conduct unbecoming” a police officer.
Hartless did not refer to himself as a Hamilton police officer in his Feb. 17 e-mail.
Fantino complained to Hamilton Police Chief Brian Mullan, telling him “the OPP have had enough of this nonsense.”
A spokesman for Fantino’s office said yesterday the OPP respect the findings of the Halton investigation and will not comment further. (Edit: Because they LOST)
Hamilton police agreed to issue a statement indicating Hartless — a frequent and vociferous critic of the OPP and the provincial government’s handling of the Caledonia situation — had committed no wrong.

Today, Haldimand County Council issued a toughly worded news release calling on the federal government to accelerate the pace of land claims negotiations in Haldimand.
The only problem is that council got tough with the wrong party while advocating the wrong solution on behalf of the wrong people. While they did refer, in passing, to the OPP’s refusal/inability to to enforce the law, Council forgot to mention that it is Dalton McGuinty’s Liberal government that ratified the theft of the Douglas Creek Estates by buying it under circumstances that any reasonable person would call extortion.
Council also failed to mention that the federal government has repeatedly said that the Douglas Creek Estates ‘claim’ is invalid, and that McGuinty’s Solicitor General has dismissed all complaints against Commissioner Fantino without even investigating them.

OPP works toward the greater good: Fantino
The inconvenience caused by the recent Aboriginal Day of Action spurred many to criticize the OPP for not charging in with guns blazing, Commissioner Julian Fantino said in Cobourg last week. But the law includes an element of discretion, he added in an address to the Cobourg Rotary Club, and they felt a call to serve the greater good of all.
“At the end of the day, we didn’t have a repeat of what happened at Caledonia, we didn’t have a repeat of what happened at Oka, and we didn’t spill a drop of blood,” Commissioner Fantino stated.
The commissioner has also been criticized for speaking out bluntly but, as he pointed out, this is every Canadian citizen’s right - and he didn’t surrender that right in 1969 when he entered the field. He fails to mention how he tried to force Hamilton Police officer Dave Hartless to surrender his right to freedom of speech for being a resident of Caledonia.
“I am driven by the sense of doing what’s right because it is the right thing to do, and I really don’t care about the popularity contest,” he said. “If it’s the truth, and it needs to be said, I intend to continue doing that.”

Bring in the RCMP already
Council passed a motion Monday to explore possible options for policing in Haldimand County, but what about the RCMP? Forget the OPP and Hamilton police. We want Mounties and horses and fancy hats here in Haldimand. For months we’ve been reading articles in which the mayor has been quoted as saying the RCMP would be an option for Haldimand. However Monday’s motion approved by county council said nothing of the sort.
As many people already realize, the whole police review process thus far (which hasn’t been much of a process) has been driven by politics and posturing since the last municipal election. Not only by the mayor, but councilors as well. Some of these councilors now seem poised to start playing the vote game too, perhaps only while such a public relations effort isn’t impacting rational decision making. But you wonder when someone is finally going to pipe up and call the whole process what it really is – a colossal waste of time and a soapbox for politicians who choose to use it as one. Unfortunately, no such bravery has been witnessed around the council table.
In last week’s report presented to council, one of the options suggested the county could develop its own municipal force – something that along with the RCMP wasn’t incorporated into Monday’s motion. Wonder why? The unanimous vote to move forward with the ‘inquiry’ was misleading, because some councilors aren’t interested in letting this thing continue past the point of a token glance – a glance that could be quickly turned back when no new options come forward later this year.

So Canadian a Protest
A few short kilometres from each other on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, two distinct approaches to the national aboriginal day of action unfolded.On Wyman’s Road, a rickety school bus blocked the CN Rail tracks, part of a protest from a group of Mohawks led by Shawn Brant that saw Highway 401 closed for 12 hours and a portion of Highway 2 closed for the entire day Friday.
At York Road and Highway 2 in Shannonville, meanwhile, Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte (MBQ) band councillor Trevor Lewis handed out information pamphlets.
“If you’re headed east, we’re told Highway 2 is blocked,” Lewis told an agitated Quebec driver. “You can take York Road to Highway 49.”
“The 401’s blocked too,” the driver said. “Why is it blocked?”
“I don’t know,” Lewis said. “We’re not part of that.”
On a day of wildly conflicting approaches to educating the public on First Nations issues, that was putting it lightly. After days of talk in the media, Brant’s group headed to Highway 401 late Thursday evening to block it. But the OPP, anticipating safety issues, shut it down instead between Belleville and Marysville around 11:30 p.m., said Sgt. Kristine Rae. OPP Seeks Positive Outcome for National Day of Action Events
ORILLIA, ON, June 27 /CNW/ - On Friday, June 29, the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) has called for a day of peaceful demonstrations and rallies to raise public awareness about aboriginal issues in Canada. Numerous legitimate protests and information and educational events are expected across Ontario, including activities that may interrupt normal travel and traffic flow.

Ontario’s ombud deserves support
Andre Marin, the provincial ombud, has raised a tough question that Premier Dalton McGuinty’s Liberal government should answer.
He has accused the government of ignoring his office, setting up outsiders to investigate problems that really should be on the ombud’s agenda.
Marin, who did fine work earlier this year in exposing problems in the Ontario lottery organization was specifically concerned about Community Safety Minister Monte Kwinter’s decision to hire an outside lawyer to look into whether Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner Julian Fantino breached the Police Services Act. Fantino wrote an e-mail note to politicians in Caledonia that suggested they were encouraging divisive rallies against the policing of the community, which has been divided by an aboriginal land dispute.
The ombud has suggested the government prefers to use outsiders because by doing so it can maintain better control of the investigation.

Imagine if the head of the Ontario Provincial Police announced on the eve of a probe touching on a major Canadian figure that the figure is an honourable man who has been given a bum rap.
Oops.
It just happened. OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino went publicly to bat this week for former RCMP commissioner Giuliano Zaccardelli, a key figure in lawyer David Brown’s report on a pension-fund scandal inside the national police force. Yet the OPP is soon to begin a review of how that scandal was investigated by the Ottawa Police Service.
Mr. Fantino did not merely make an off-the-cuff comment about his old professional friend. He was effusive about him. He said he was surprised that Mr. Zaccardelli has been “so vilified” over the pension fund. “I would like to think there is goodness and commitment and dedication and honourable duty in every person. To the extent I have known commissioner Zaccardelli, that’s how I’ve known him,” he told reporters. “We are all part of humanity. We have to come to grips with the fact humans are humans.”
Kindness or exoneration, the outburst is premature. The effect is to make the OPP look as if it has reached conclusions before it begins its review, though whether those who actually conduct the review will be influenced is impossible to know. Auditor-General Sheila Fraser has already said the Ottawa police investigation lacked the appearance of independence, because the lead investigator reported directly to an assistant RCMP commissioner. The highest standards of independence and propriety are needed for the investigation of a major Canadian institution and its leadership. Mr. Fantino’s comments suggest an old boys’ network is in charge.

Ombudsman blasts province for bypassing him

The Liberal government is circumventing the ombudsman’s office and squandering tax dollars by hiring outsiders to investigate public complaints because it wants to maintain control over the investigations, the province’s ombudsman said Wednesday.
Andre Marin said the government is “queasy” about referring public complaints to his office – even when the province finds itself in a conflict of interest as it does with a current set of complaints against Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner Julian Fantino.
The government could have asked him to investigate the complaint, Marin said, but instead often chooses to hire outsiders so it can dictate the scope of any investigation and retain some control over the results.
“You don’t have that when you come to the ombudsman’s office,” Marin said in an interview. “You don’t know where the ball’s going to land because we don’t accept scripted mandates.
“I’m just getting advice,” Kwinter said. “I have confidence in the commissioner, and unless I hear … a valid reason that I should be concerned, I’ll have to deal with that. I will make the decision but I want to make sure I have all of the facts.” (EDIT: Way to sound objective Monty)
Conservative Leader John Tory said if the government finds itself in a conflict of interest investigating complaints like those prompted by Fantino’s email, the matter should be referred to the ombudsman.

A video showing about 300 men and boys as young as 12 at an Al Qaeda training camp is creating fears, ABC News says, that suicide missions are being deployed to Canada and other countries.

Fontaine warns possible lawbreakers
OTTAWA — Flanked by some of the top police officers in the country, Phil Fontaine issued a clear warning yesterday to aboriginal protesters plotting a wide range of mischief in the coming days.
The national chief of the Assembly of First Nations said anyone who breaks the law in protesting against native poverty should expect to run afoul of police. But he also urged police not to clamp down on those protesting peacefully as part of a long-scheduled day of action June 29.
“Freedom of expression and freedom of association are constitutional rights, and people have a right to demonstrate, to protest,” Mr. Fontaine said. “And if they so wish to engage in civil disobedience, they can, as long as they’re prepared to accept the consequences.” (EDIT: Easy to say when they all know there are NO concequences)

OPP chief surprised that Zaccardelli ‘vilified’
OTTAWA — Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner Julian Fantino said yesterday he has always known former RCMP commissioner Giuliano Zaccardelli to be an honourable man, and was surprised he has been “so vilified” in public comments about the Mounties’ pension fund scandal.
Several members of the RCMP have said Mr. Zaccardelli tried to thwart the initial police investigation four years ago.
Commissioner Fantino has been a professional friend of Mr. Zaccardelli for many years, since Commissioner Fantino was the chief of the Toronto Police Service.
But Commissioner Fantino said he’s not going to let his relationship with Mr. Zaccardelli stand between himself and his sworn duty as a police officer. (Edit: He still thinks he’s a cop?)
“I can assure you the OPP will do whatever we are called upon and required to do,” he said. (EDIT: Yeah.. right)

Several members of the RCMP have said Mr. Zaccardelli tried to thwart the initial police investigation four years ago.
Commissioner Fantino has been a professional friend of Mr. Zaccardelli for many years, since Commissioner Fantino was the chief of the Toronto Police Service.
But Commissioner Fantino said he’s not going to let his relationship with Mr. Zaccardelli stand between himself and his sworn duty as a police officer. (Edit: He still thinks he’s a cop?)

OPP preparing for native protest day: Fantino
The police don’t want to become the “meat in the sandwich” between governments and First Nations protesters, says the head of the Ontario Provincial Police.
But Julian Fantino said Monday that his officers will be prepared to maintain order during the upcoming native day of protest on June 29.
“We’re prepared to take action if and when warranted,” he told CTV Newsnet’s Mike Duffy Live. “But clearly we’re in a predicament where we have to exercise a whole lot of care and caution.” (EDIT: The same way you’re prepared to take action each and every day in Caledonia by sitting in your air conditioned cars and observing crime? The same kind of action Fantino personally took by hiding and peeking out a window at us on Jan 20th?)

Thank you Mr. Fantino: My countersuit regarding conspiracy

In my mind it had been clear that the Ontario Government, along with the OPP and Haldimand County, were working together to end my Right to Freedom of Expression as guaranteed by our Charter of Rights. Direct proof of this conspiracy was hard to come by until Fantino did what people in positions of power don’t do, and that was provide written evidence to support my belief.
What Fantino also did was to admit that he had a “mutual understanding” as to how to handle me. What exactly is this backroom ‘understanding’ that Fantino admits to? If he feels it is okay to threaten Haldimand Council in an email then what exactly has he said behind closed doors?
What makes Fantino’s email the ’smoking gun’ in my view is that he sent his email directly to senior members of McGuinty’s Government.
The Government who repeatedly stated that they have no direct involvement in the OPP operations in Caledonia. But why then does McGuinty’s Chief of Staff and McGuinty’s Press Secretary need to know that Fantino is directly trying to intimidate Haldimand County? What was the response by McGuinty’s staff to the fact that Fantino was threatening elected officials?
Back in July of 2006, Chris Morley, named in the countersuit, threatened CHTV for having me on TV. Long before Fantino started his 3 month campaign of defamation against me we had McGuinty’s office trying to punish a media outlet for reporting the news.
We need to remember that Fantino stated in his email that he would encourage individual officers to sue me or council members. Is anyone surprised to see that 22 officers have filed a lawsuit against me? Guess who is paying for the legal fees for these officers? The OPPA lawyer is the lawyer for these 22 officers.
What is so great about this countersuit, in my view, is that we now have the legal right to all email & correspondence between all these people. All in-camera meetings at Haldimand County with Fantino are now subject to this lawsuit. I now have the Right to know what ‘mutual understanding’ means between Fantino and Haldimand County.
I will remind people that on Dec. 15, 2006, Mayor Trainer stated on radio that the OPP should arrest me and the very next day I was arrested by the OPP and spent the night in jail even though they knew they had no charges against me.
Where is Free Speech in this Province? What is McGuinty’s involvement in directing the OPP and taking part in the defamation?
We will find the answers in court.

A Richmond Hill man who runs a website critical of the provincial police’s conduct in Caledonia has responded to a $7.2-million lawsuit filed against him by 22 OPP officers who say they were defamed on his site with his own counter claim.
Gary McHale announced the launch of his own suit yesterday afternoon at a town hall meeting in Caledonia.
“It is clear they are trying to silence our free speech and it’s not going to work,” said McHale yesterday.

Fantino urged to apologize for beating
OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino should apologize – in person – to Kettle and Stony Point band member Cecil Bernard George, 12 years after he was brutally beaten by police during the Ipperwash dispute, the head of the Ipperwash inquiry says.
This was one of dozens of recommendations Justice Sidney Linden directed toward the police force in his report on the occupation at Ipperwash Provincial Park. The report found several instances of racist behaviour in the OPP during the operation…

Why Fantino failed - Racism charge comes to MSM

This week marks the death of Two Tier Justice in Ontario, but Fantino, McGuinty and Native Protesters are too blind to read the death certificate.
We have seen for the past year how a small group of Native people took it upon themselves to attack the very foundation of any democratic society and that is the “Rule of Law”. They were emboldened by the complete failure of the OPP in Ipperwash to enforce any Law & Order and the 15+ years of appeasement only lead to Caledonia, Grassy Narrows, Deseronto and Hagersville.
The untold thousands of victims created by this small band of Native Protesters would have gone unnoticed by the people of Ontario because Main Stream Media would have avoided covering the stories. This is why CaledoniaWakeUpCall was created.
For the Media, it didn’t want to be labeled as racist. We see this week how Mark on CHTV Live was called a racist because he believes that when crimes are committed people (any people) should go to jail.
Why did Fantino fail in his attempt to slander me? Why did Fantino fail to control the media and create endless B.S. propaganda about what was happening? The reasons are quite simple.
First, I present the Truth and therefore Fantino, McGuinty, Tory, etc., etc. were fighting to present lies to the public.
Second, I relied on human nature to take its course.
Fantino and the Politicians were putting their trust in the very people who were committing the crimes. They were hoping and maybe even praying that these people would show some degree of self-control, some degree of understanding that they cannot awaken the Canadian Public to the truth which is that they are out of control.
All we had to do was to wait until these occupations self-exploded into what we now see. The Native Occupiers were creating a movement across Canada that was based on criminal behaviour, violence and on the victimization of innocent residents. Such a movement could only end one way and that is in the complete lawlessness we now see.
In Turtle Island News last week we read that the Clan Mothers and Chiefs do not go onto DCE in Caledonia because they are afraid - welcome to the world of the residents.
It appeared okay by many Native leaders that the victims of these violent Land Claims were non-Native, but now that they are also afraid of them it appears to be a different story.
I personally cannot understand why Fantino would believe that any politician would be steadfast on anything. But it appears that he has hooked his future to McGuinty’s propaganda machine in an attempt to get McGuinty re-elected.
Does he really think with an election coming that McGuinty will fall on his own sword to save him? The writing is on the wall and Fantino has failed to enforce the law, failed to end Two Tier Justice and failed to close down CaledoniaWakeUpCall.
It wasn’t for the lack of trying - numerous press releases and statements in the media by Fantino to slander me, secret understandings with Haldimand County to get people not to listen to us, and even a lawsuit…
Sorry Fantino, you failed. You backed the criminals instead of the law abiding citizens of this province. You used slander and intimidation instead of Truth and Justice.
Fantino somehow believed that his rants, his character assassinations, his slander, his bullying, his strong arm tactics would have an affect on me. It was down right funny to watch him call in the London Riot Team on Jan. 20th to stop peaceful people from keeping themselves warm by a fire on Chris’ property. It was quite amazing to witness him hide out at Unity Road and peek around the corner of the window to see us outside confronting the Ontario Chief Bully.
Fantino was reduced to a joke which only caused him to self-explode when he sent out his email rant. Since then he is no where to be found.
