As an anonymous Internet video offered fresh tips on railway sabotage, the country’s top native chief made an impassioned call for help to contain growing anger over stolen land and crippling poverty. Phil Fontaine, head of the Assembly of First Nations, says decades of fruitless talks with the federal government have done little to right past wrongs. He directly reached out to Canadians on Tuesday for help to pressure Ottawa for real change - before threatened blockades turn deadly.
Indian Affairs Minister Jim Prentice stressed that he’ll soon move to speed up land-claim talks that take an average of 13 years. “Someone is going to be hurt,” Prentice said outside the Commons.
